Behavioural and Social Research Call for pre-proposals

Kidney diseases are associated with a decreased quality of life. One of the goals of the Dutch Kidney Foundation is stimulating research into the underlying physical and mental factors.

In 2018, the Dutch Kidney Foundation has made € 500.000 available for behavioural and social research projects that can improve the quality of life of dialysis patients, transplant patients, donors and chronic kidney disease patients who do not receive kidney replacement therapy. Researchers are invited submit a pre-proposal for a relatively large (max. € 260.000) or smaller (e.g. € 100.000) project.

Who can apply?

The applicant (project leader) is a behavioural or social scientist working at a research institute in the Netherlands. The applicant has a strong track record in behavioural or social research and is interested in advancing the renal field.

Which disciplines and themes?

This call is open to all topics relevant to renal patients and renal disease, in the field of behavioural and social sciences, and to all types of research ranging from basic to implementation research. Behavioural science and social science are broadly conceived, examples of relevant disciplines are psychology, health care science, nursing science, sociology, sexuality studies, gerontology, social work and cognitive science.

Changes in procedure
The Dutch Kidney Foundation has introduced a system of pre-proposals. The deadline for submitting a pre-proposal has passed. The Dutch Kidney Foundation has selected ten pre-proposals for submitting a full proposal. For submitting a full proposal (upon invitation), the deadline is June 26. The meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board is on 13 September. A patient panel also assesses the proposals. Furthermore, the Dutch Kidney Foundation encourages the involvement of patients during the set-up of the project.
